The Wanker Bridge Pickup

$268.00 $379.00

""The Wanker has to be the best pickup I've ever played.  I don't know how you managed that but thank you." - Jeff K.

A humbucker that will lead you to the promised land of divinely godlike tone." - Guitar Girl magazine

"I like it better than the DiMarzio Evolution!" - Silas Fernandes

"It has a lot of power behind it. Has the mids much needed in modern metal...with lots of clarity." - Nik Nocturnal

In celebration of all guitarists known to crank—or wank—their way to sonic bliss, players are finally free to enjoy themselves, wanking their way to self-expression without blowing up their tone or alienating their bandmates with our new Wanker humbucker.

Built specifically for strat-style shred sleds, the Wanker was developed for players who like to push boundaries with higher output. Popularized in the 1980s, these pickups were overly wound just to provide higher output, but that approach came at a high cost in tone. Meanwhile, we are a manufacturer that has earned its reputation for pickups that capture the best qualities of the best-sounding Patent Applied For (P.A.F.) pickups of the 1950s and 1960s. With the launch of the Wanker, we have achieved the best of both worlds—a tightly wound, high-output humbucker for the strat-style guitar that doesn’t sacrifice tone.

The Wanker starts with 53 mm spacing to accommodate Floyd Rose-style bridges and F-spacing fixed bridges, along with short feet. It has four-conductor wiring and degaussed Alnico 5 magnets. As with other Sheptone humbuckers, resistance will vary, as the winding process goes strictly by the number of turns, but it tends to be around 10.5. This gives the Wanker plenty of power to drive the signal chain, but not so much that it begins to suck the tone out of it.

The Wanker’s short feet are better suited for the sleeker, low-profile guitar designs that today’s players are seeking and guitar builders are making. Wooden spacers stay true to the original pursuit of tone, and the German silver base plate is ideal for tonal neutrality.

Just buy this thing. It's the best humbucker for any style of music, period. Don't tell me you're a tone snob unless you at least try it.

High gain? It's wound enough to give you some serious chugs and leads so smooth, like butter on a muffin, but not too much that you lose clarity and definition to compression.

Clean? This is one of the very few bridge pickups that can actually pull off a great clean tone without fumbling with the volume and tone, and it holds up split.

It's friendly with fuzz and drive pedals, built like a tank (seriously, Josh isn't screwing around with that baseplate and wire quality) and sleek enough to fit into any humbucker routing.

This is a killer pickup! I replaced a JB in one of my Charvel Henrik Danhage guitars.
Definitely going to try more from Sheptone in the near future!
